MONTCLAIR STATE ROLLS PAST FARMINGDALE IN SKYLINE CONFERENCE WOMEN’S LACROSSE TOURNAMENT

Montclair, NJ (4/30/08) – Senior midfielder Bethany Blaine (Moorestown, NJ / Moorestown) scored five goals while sophomore Morgan MacPhee (Toms River, NJ / Toms River East) added four as two-time defending champion and top seed Montclair State moved into the championship game of the Skyline Conference Tournament with a 20-6 win over fourth-seeded Farmingdale State on Wednesday afternoon.

Junior Marykate DiBenedetto (Cinnaminson, NJ / Cinnaminson) added four goals as the Red Hawks (8-7) will face either No. 2 seed Kean or No. 3 seed Mt. St. Vincent in the title game on Saturday, May 3 at Sprague Field beginning at 1:00 pm. The winner receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Freshman Jaclyn Messina (Smithtown, NY / Smithtown) had two goals for Farmingdale State, which concluded its season at 4-11.

Messina gave the Rams a 1-0 lead 22 seconds into the contest, however Montclair scored four times over the next two minutes to take the lead for good. Jamie Hudacko (Montville, NJ / Montville) got things going and Blaine cored twice in a 37-second span before DiBendetto tallied with 27:23 to go as Montclair led 4-1.

Farmingdale would get a goal back as Alecia Fuschetto (Melville, NY/Hills East) scored, but again Montclair answered with a run as Blaine connected twice for a 7-2 Red Hawk advantage with 19:09 left in the opening period. Theresa Rokee (Lindenhurst, NY / Lindenhurst) collected a goal for Farmingdale to make the score, 7-3 but MacPhee tallied three straight as MSU led at halftime, 11-3.

Freshman goalkeeper Talia Katz (Lower Merion, PA / Lower Merion) finished with eight saves for Montclair State, which outshot Farmingdale, 48-14. Blaine added four draw controls, five ground balls and three caused turnovers. DiBenedetto had five ground balls, three draws and two caused turnovers while Jennifer Tanis (Oak Ridge, NJ / Jefferson) posted a goal, three assists, six ground balls, two draws and three caused turnovers.

Senior goalkeeper Janine Forman (N. Massapequa, NY / Plainedge) had 16 saves for th Rams. Sophomore Jennifer Jung (New Hyde Park, NY/ Herricks) registered three ground balls and two caused turnovers for Farmingdale.
