THIRD AT VIRGINIA DUALS
Hampton, VA
(01/11/03) - The Montclair State University wrestling team,
ranked No. 15 in NCAA Division III as of Jan. 7, defeated Cumberland
(KY) College, 22-19, tonight to finish in third place in the American
College division of the 2003 Virginia Duals. MSU, which bested Cumberland
by a 28-15 count yesterday to open the tournament, improved to 6-1
in dual matches this season.
The Red Hawks posted
five individual victories in their rematch with Cumberland, with
MSU forfeiting one bout. Junior GARY MIKOLAY won by decision at
133 pounds, and senior RAMI RATEL improved to 20-0 with 12 falls
this season by recording a pin in just 39 seconds in his 149-pound
match. Also chalking up wins for Montclair were JESS MONZO (157),
BILL DENIZ (165), and EDUARD ALIAKSEYENKA (174). Ratel, Deniz, and
Aliakseyenka were all undefeated on the weekend at the Duals.
MSU's next dual
action comes on Wednesday, Jan. 15, when it travels to Wilkes (PA)
University to face the host Colonels along with Kutztown (PA) University
in a tri-match beginning at 5:00 p.m.
