John Davis, MS, ATC, arrived at Montclair State midway through the fall of 1984. Since assuming the Head Athletic Trainer position he has helped the athletic program grow, providing excellent athletic training care to the 17 teams that MSU sponsors, and has seen 45-plus students become certified athletic trainers.

Although Davis has been patrolling the sidelines at Montclair State for over 20 years he often looks back at his educational experience at Ursinus, West Chester, and East Stroudsburg, along with his previous assistant positions at Delaware Valley College and Amherst College. He was well prepared for the role of Head Athletic Trainer when he arrived. He continues to incorporate many of the ideals he was exposed to by his mentors while blending in new concepts he has picked up during his career at Montclair State.

During the past 20-plus years John has also been very involved professionally. In 2006 he was selected for the NATA's Most Distinguished Athletic Trainer Award. He is a Past-President of the Athletic Trainers' Society of New Jersey and in 2006 was inducted into the ATSNJ Hall of Fame. In 2005 he was selected as the inaugural winner of the Eastern College Athletic Conference's Dr. Donald Grover Memorial Award. He previously served as NATA District II Secretary and Secretary/ Treasurer of the Eastern Athletic Trainer' Association. He has served as the host and as a Site Administrator for the NATABOC Certification Exam. He has also worked with the United States Association of Blind Athletes. Interestingly, MSU displayed its faith and John's administrative and health care experience by naming him Interim Director of Montclair's Health Center in 1997.

In his role of Head Athletic Trainer, Davis coordinates a large group of Sports Medicine specialists that have been attracted to MSU by Davis and his staff and the outstanding athletic reputation Montclair enjoys. Davis uses these health care professionals to ensure appropriate, quick, and state of the art athletic health care for MSU athletes.

When asked what is the most enjoyable part of his job and tenure at Montclair, Davis replies by saying that he enjoys seeing the athletic alumni return to MSU and speak highly of the care they received while at Montclair State. He also enjoys going to Athletic Training seminars and renewing friendships with the certified athletic trainers that have graduated from Montclair State University.

John spends his off time with his wife Barbara and daughter Lindsey. They live in Pequannock, NJ.
