Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco (1895-1968) had established himself throughout Europe as an up-and-coming composer of opera, solo, and chamber music. Then, after escaping the Fascists in 1939, he had a second career in Hollywood, writing for film scores in the 1940s - 60s.
Professor Witten will show several video clips of his film work, and perform his five-movement piano suite: Piedigrotta 1924, based on Neapolitan songs and dances.
