Expand Your Capacity to Thrive Amidst Conflict and Stress. Essential Skills for Life and Leadership.

Being a university student is filled with non-stop choices in the midst of nonstop activities.  It is entirely up to you to determine your level of self-care (what you eat, when you sleep, if you exercise), how you manage your course load, who you spend time with, how you entertain yourself, how many extra curricular activities you take on, and still make time to connect with family and possibly have a part-time job.

Consider that the ways you are managing all of the above in college is most likely the approach(es) you will adopt in your career.

About The Workshop

This workshop is open to all members of the campus community and is for you if:

  • There are so many competing pulls on your attention and you are working so hard to get everything done, it is hard to hear yourself think or hear your own truth.
  • Sometimes, you feel stuck or indecisive when you need to make important decisions or even everyday choices.
  • In stressful or conflict situations it is easier to say nothing or just agree rather than express your own wishes or opinions.
  • You want to slow down and have options as to how you function, rather than feel compelled to operate at breakneck speed in order to do well.
  • You are leading and/or helping other students and you want to be a resource from a grounded, calm, focused place; ready to listen, clear enough inside to be of service.

You are invited to a highly interactive afternoon seminar designed to enhance access to your wisdom, courage, confidence, and your best thinking in the moment and in the midst of everyday conflicts, stress and challenging situations.

In the workshop, you will have an opportunity to:

  • Practice easy-to-learn tools from the Institute of HeartMath that take less than a minute to do and can be applied before, during and/or after stressful situations.
  • Select a simple circumstance – a person, place, or situation that drains your energy, and experience an expanded perspective and greater clarity about this issue using the tools.
  • Explore the many situations in which these tools can support your personal and university life.

With practice and intention, you can enhance your ability to recharge your mental and emotional batteries and build resilience in the same way you build strength by working out.  We will cover:

  • The energy dynamics of conflict vs. harmony – what is happening externally and inside your body
  • How specifically the nervous system reacts to stress vs. coherence and its powerful impact on your health and your ability to think clearly
  • The power of coherence – bringing the mind, body and emotions into sync – and its many benefits
  • The benefits of creating space between the stressor and your immediate reaction, giving you the option to choose a response
  • Relational energetics – how your energy affects others and vice versa

About the Presenter

Jennae Wallach, MHSA, is a professional mediator, collaborative negotiator and facilitator.  She was certified by the Institute of HeartMath to be a HeartMath trainer in 1997 and has been using these principles and practices in her personal and professional life for 17 years.

She has served as a change agent for organizations undergoing transitions and transformations, leading complex initiatives within school districts, cities, hospitals and community-based organizations.  She has designed curriculum and facilitated trainings to promote community building and expand leadership and relational skills.

Jennae’s passion for teaching peace-building skills is inspired in part from growing up in Newark, NJ during the civil rights movement; being deeply influenced by the activist community around her; and experiencing the Newark riots, white-flight, and the decades of effort dedicated to creating the next chapters for Newark and other cities that experienced similar dynamics.

She holds a vision of individuals and communities continually enhancing their knowledge and skills as peace builders and bridge builders, and applying these skills to improve their own lives and the lives of everyone they touch.
