Lecture: The American Occupation of Japan
The American Occupation of Japan, spanning the years 1945-52, was an unprecedented event in world history during which one major Power literally sealed off another major Power from all other international relations to carry out sweeping political, social, economic, and cultural reforms. Although some of these reforms did not take permanent root, enough did to transform Japan into one of the most democratic and peaceful countries in the world. Additionally, a heinous enemy became a staunch and lasting ally of the United States.
