The application of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) is almost endless! Developed from relational database management system and associated with actual geographic features on the surface of Earth, GIS is able to store, display, and analyze geographic information in a fairly revolutionary way. There are too many GIS topics to explore in just one-day, so this program will focus on delivering the basic concepts and fundamental languages of GIS that will serve as a useful tool to environmental professionals.

This full day interactive workshop is designed to provide environmental professionals the awareness of the power of GIS and an understanding of GIS-related works. At the conclusion of the program, participants will have a working knowledge of what type of data can be obtained from publically available sources, what can and needs to be done when maps are required to be created, how to supply metadata and why it’s important.

Bring Your Own Computer (BYOC)

We encourage you to bring your own laptop computer to class for an optimum learning experience. Power outlets and Wi-Fi are available at each seat for your use in our smart classroom. Special Bonus! - Prior to class, participants will receive information on how to download a free trial of the ArcGIS 10.3 software that will be used in class.
