Give Something that Means Something

Thanksgiving is approaching, and so are the winter holidays.  It's the time of year when we all think about our blessings and our loved one; planning for that special holiday gathering and gift-giving.

It also is the time of year when blood donations are most needed. You have the opportunity to donate blood with the American Red Cross. This event is hosted by the Center for Student Involvement Volunteer Resource Center in co-sponsorship.

When and Where

Make your appointment online!

To ensure that you are able to donate blood on November 10, please make an appointment via redcrossblood.org and use the sponsor code: Redhawk. If you are not able to schedule an appointment, you can still donate, but will have to wait because those with appointments receive preference.

RapidPass your appointment

A new feature for this drive is the RapidPass system. RapidPass allows you to complete your pre-reading and donation questions online from the comfort and privacy of your home or office; reducing the time you spend at the blood drive by up to 15 minutes! Simply go to redcrossblood.org/RapidPass, answer the questions, and print the pass or email it yourself.

Please Note: RapidPass must be completed the day of the drive and not earlier, and those using RapidPass must be able to show a printed form or the email on their phone. Using RapidPass does not give you an appointment.

What to expect when you arrive to give blood

On the blood drive day, please report to Ballroom A. You will need either your donation card or your ID (MSU ID is fine!)

When you arrive, you will be logged in, given some literature to read over, and then asked to wait. Once a nurse from the American Red Cross is free, they will call you over. Your personal information will be used for the purposes of determining whether your blood can be used or not.

After the preliminary stages, you are ready to give blood. The process takes about 20 minutes. Afterwards, you will be escorted to a recovery table, where there will be snacks and water to prevent you from becoming weak. When 10 minutes is up, you are free to go about your day.

Got Questions?

If you have any questions about the drive, feel free to contact the Volunteer Resource Center office at 973-655-5318, or volunteer@mail.montclair.edu

Giving blood really is a simple way to help someone else!
