Attention faculty and students: Mid-Atlantic Region of the American Academy of Religion (MAR-AAR) is sponsoring a series of workshops this fall/spring on various aspects of teaching Religious Studies.

On Thursday, Oct. 29, the workshop will be led by Dr. Mark Clatterbuck, associate professor of Religion at MSU.

As the Humanities continue to face steep spending cuts & struggle to assert their significance in an educational climate fixated on “earning potential” and so-called “practical” degree programs, those of us in Religious Studies—faculty and students alike — are challenged daily to defend the value of our discipline.

This workshop will explore practical ways of addressing these challenges by advocating for a publically-engaged, applied-study model of undergraduate Religious Studies education. Dr. Clatterbuck contends that such a model not only embraces shifting trends in the field & plays to the innate strengths of our discipline, but also better prepares our students for life after graduation.
