See You Later
"David T. Little is quickly gaining a reputation as an opera composer of substantial promise, but Haunt of Last Nightfall, a percussion work just over half an hour long, shows that his dramatic instincts extend well beyond the theatrical stage. Billed as a 'ghost play' inspired by a 1981 massacre in El Salvador, the music moves from rusticity through violence, despair and outrage in this eloquent account by Chicago's versatile, resourceful Third Coast Percussion. -- Steve Smith, The New York Times
Celebrate percussion genius in this powerhouse music event created by some of today’s finest composers, musicians, and artists. “See You Later” features the “vibrant, superb” playing of Third Coast Percussion; a world premiere by Gavin Bryars, a contemporary composer known for “a reliance on melody that makes his music utterly accessible”; and the first staged performance of David T. Little’s Haunt of Last Nightfall, inspired by revelations of the US role in the horrifying El Mozote Massacre in El Salvador. Director Cathie Boyd and her Glasgow-based arts organization, Cryptic, create the lighting, films, and staging that enhance this powerful evening of music.
