Yopie Prins, Professor of English and Comparative Literature, University of Michigan, will speak on Sappho's poetry and the way women poets have constructed a Sapphic tradition.   Yopie is the author of Victorian Sappho (1999) and Ladies’ Greek: Translations of Tragedy (forthcoming 2017) and co-editor of Lyric Theory Reader: A Critical Anthology (2014), Dwelling in Possibility: Women Poets and Critics on Poetry (1997), and a special issue of Cultural Critique on “Classical Reception and the Political” (2010).  Yopie is past president of the American Comparative Literature Association.  Her translations from the Dutch appear in The Defiant Muse: Dutch and Flemish Feminist Poems (Feminist Press, 1997).
