This compelling Women Entrepreneurship Week event will feature a keynote address by Alfa Demmellash, and then a panel of social entrepreneurs:

Alfa Demmellash grew up in Ethiopia on less than a dollar a day, before immigrating to the U.S. and landing at Harvard. She co-founded Rising Tide Capital to empower under-served urban entrepreneurs in northern New Jersey to start and grow successful businesses.

When Denisse Rojas Marquez grew up as an undocumented immigrant, she and her family had limited health care options. This inspired Denisse not only to become a doctor--she became the first undocumented student to attend the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai--but also to create Pre-Health Dreamers, a national nonprofit that helps undocumented students pursue careers in health care.

Susan MacLaury, winner of an Emmy and nominated for an Academy Award, uses her film-making talent to produce inspiring films and compelling content about at-risk children. Her nonprofit media company, Shine Global, has taken action on child labor, child abuse, and child soldiering, shared moving stories about the effects of war, and highlighted the power of music, dance, and sports to overcome intolerance.

Laurel Dumont started her career as a fifth-grade teacher in Newark public schools. After obtaining her law degree, she devoted her skills and education to improving the community needs of Newark and beyond, currently through her work at Leadership for Educational Equity.

The moderator is Linda Lacina, managing editor of Entrepreneur Media.

Event is free and open to the public. Men are welcome, and encouraged to attend.
