Several recent planned gifts to MSU have added to the success of The Campaign for the Second Century. Former Dean of Students Lawton W. Blanton, Jr., who passed away in May 2005, left his home and a generous cash gift to the University in his will. Blanton served as director of Admissions from 1957 to 1961, and dean of students from 1961 until his retirement in 1980. Blanton Hall, a student residence building, was named for Blanton in 1982. He was a major proponent of the residential experience at MSU and strived for more student residences throughout his tenure as dean.

In addition, Eva S. Walther '34 recently established a charitable gift annuity to MSU. This gift will create the Eva S. Walther '34 Scholarship, which will benefit Montclair State University students studying English or music.

At the direction of Joseph Laraja, the Laraja Foundation provided a major gift to endow the Laraja Foundation Scholarships for students in MSU's School of Business.

Catherine Hanley '72 M.A. provided a large bequest to endow a scholarship fund in her name. Ms. Hanley was a longtime Annual Fund donor who has generously supported the University throughout her life.

In addition to providing funds for scholarships, programs and improvement of the campus, planned gifts can provide donors with tax benefits and guaranteed lifetime income. There are a number of ways to make a planned gift to MSU, including bequests, trusts and charitable gift annuities.
