Calder Exhibit at The George Segal Gallery

This fall, the George Segal Gallery presented an exhibition of the littleknown series of 14 wall hangings designed by artist Alexander Calder and produced by weavers from Guatemala. The wall hangings were created to benefit earthquake victims in Managua, Nicaragua in the 1970s. The stunning and colorful works were enhanced by the humanitarian effort behind their creation. The exhibit was supported by the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation and the New Jersey State Council on the Arts.

Montclair State named the University’s art gallery, a magnificent 7,200- square-foot space, in honor of renowned New Jersey sculptor George Segal in April 2006. The George Segal Gallery is the new home to nationally significant exhibitions focusing on masters of the 20th and 21st centuries.

The George Segal Gallery, located adjacent to the Alexander Kasser Theater, holds a permanent collection of contemporary paintings, prints, mixed media, fiber art, photography and sculpture. Gallery hours are Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Thursdays from 12:30 to 7:30 p.m. For more information, call the George Segal Gallery at 973-655-3382.
