Society luncheon.
Charles L. Magliaro '54 '58 M.A. and his wife Lori recently drove 900 miles from their home in St. Simons Island, Georgia, to the Montclair State University campus for a very special gathering.
Members of the Carpe Diem Society, which honors alumni such as Mr.
Magliaro and other friends who have made a commitment to Montclair State through their estate plans, were honored at a celebratory luncheon on May 16, 2007 in University Hall. The Carpe Diem Society is a way for
Montclair State to seize the opportunity to engage alumni and friends
throughout their lives.
Mr. Magliaro spoke enthusiastically at the luncheon, giving a Carpe Diem Society member's perspective. He shared his positive experience being back at Montclair State University in 2003 for an Alumni Breakfast. I was so impressed with the growth on campus and it reminded me how fortunate I was to go to school here, he recalled. I got a great education and I appreciate so much what Montclair State has meant to me that I wanted to give something back. Magliaro has made arrangements in his will for a percentage bequest to Montclair State. I see this as a small way to ensure that Montclair State Universitys reputation for excellence will continue, he adds. I always wanted to do something for Montclair State.
Susan A. Cole, President of Montclair State, also addressed the group. Other speakers were Richard Lynde, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs; Ada Beth Cutler, Dean of the College of Education and Human Services; Tia Jones Graham, Planned Gifts Officer; and Thomas J. Haynes, Vice President for University Advancement.
One of the most meaningful ways to support Montclair State University is by making a deferred or planned gift, notes Ms. Jones Graham. Carpe Diem Society members have the satisfaction of knowing that they have left an enduring legacy
and helped shape Montclair State for generations to come. The Carpe Diem Society holds a special place of honor as Montclair State launches its 2008 centennial celebration.
