

Valued Volunteers: Scott and Ingrid Williams—The Gift of Music

Scott and Ingrid ’92 ’96 M.A. Williams are loyal and true friends of Montclair State. Mrs. Williams earned undergraduate and graduate degrees in organ performance from the University and currently serves on the
John J. Cali School of Music’s Advisory Board. Mr. Williams has been a
member of the Montclair State University Foundation Board of Trustees since 2004 and previously served on the University Board of Trustees for four years.
Scott Williams was honored with the Carpe Diem award at the 2005 annual dinner and Ingrid Williams was likewise honored at the 2007 annual dinner. This award is presented annually to alumni and friends who have established distinguished careers and demonstrated outstanding achievements.
Mr. and Mrs. Williams are supporting the purchase of a new practice organ for the Cali School. It will be housed in a recital room named in memory of her beloved teacher, David Messineo.
Mr. and Mrs. Williams have also named a lecture hall in University Hall. “We appreciate Scott and Ingrid’s sincere dedication to Montclair State and their generous gifts from their hearts,” says Thomas J. Haynes, Vice President for University Advancement. “Their dedication and leadership will help us build a
stronger future to meet the challenges and opportunities our second century will bring.”
Mrs. Williams’ love for the organ has led to a weekly routine as organist for area churches. She is past dean of the Northern New Jersey Chapter of the American Guild of Organists and for the past year has served as the state convener for New Jersey AGO chapters. Mrs. Williams’ musical ability was developed and encouraged under the tutelage of Montclair State University professors Jack Sacher, Donald Mintz, Ting Ho and David Messineo. Dr. Messineo provided instrumental training in organ performance.
Mr. Williams is retired from an illustrious career at PSE&G that beganin 1972. He is now a full-time professor of business atthe County College of Morris, where he had previously taught part-timefor 20 years. He has been a trustee of the YWCA of Orange and WestHudson since 1987, and was a member of the Mendham Borough Board ofEducation for many years, including serving as president.
Mr. and Mrs. Williams have two grown children, Jennifer and Michael, and reside in Mendham.
