Italian American Studies Chair at Montclair State University
Inserra Endows Gift to Name Italian American Studies Chair at Montclair State University

Montclair State University and UNICO National are partners in a campaign to raise $1,250,000 to endow a professorship in Italian/Italian-American Studies in the University's College of Humanities and Social Sciences. Lawrence R. Inserra, Jr. has made a commitment to support a major gift to name the endowed chair in Italian and Italian American studies. The chair will be named in honor of Mr. Inserra's parents, Theresa and Lawrence R. Inserra.

When an endowment is established, the principal remains untouched and only the interest generated on that principal can be expended. Preserving the principal in this way assures the original purpose of the fund and the continuation of the endowed chair in perpetuity. Proceeds from the fund will help support the salary, research and programs of the scholar who occupies the endowed chair. On its part, Montclair State University will provide matching funds as needed to fully support the position.

In addition to enabling teaching and research, the scholar who occupies the chair will help establish and maintain a public program to strengthen and solidify MSU's position as the center of a dynamic program in Italian/Italian American culture. The establishment of the endowed chair will confirm the prestige of Italian/Italian American studies as it strengthens the quality of the program.
