General Policies

• Be courteous to other facility users.
• Follow building/area rules and instructions from the Student Recreation Staff.
• Uphold the values of good sportsmanship.
• Refrain from disrespectful, dangerous, and unsanitary behaviors.
• Respect the experience of other members.

ID/Entrance Policies

• Students and all members must have a valid MSU ID.
• Faculty/Staff and Alumni must purchase a membership.
• Faculty/Staff can purchase a day pass without a sponsor.

Guest Policies

• Guests must register and fill out a waiver form in the office.
• $10 per guest, only 2 guests per 1 MSU ID.
• Guests must be over 16 years old, but those 16-18 years of age are required to have written consent of a parent/guardian at time of entry
• A government issued photo ID with date of birth must be presented to gain entry.
• Must be with the sponsor at all times.
• Guests must adhere to all policies and procedures.
• Guests must carry provided day passes at all times.
• Passes are good for only one day (date of issue) and are not refundable.
• Re-entry is allowed provided the same sponsor escorts the guest in the same day.

GroupX Etiquette

• There must be at least 2 participants for the class to be held. If there are less than 2 participants in attendance, the class will be canceled.
• Participants must have a towel when attending the class.
• Keep hydrated.
• Sign-in either at the beginning or the conclusion of the class.
• It is prohibited to enter a Group X class more than 10 minutes late. This creates a safety hazard for all participants involved.
• All participants MUST present their MSU ID at the Circle Desk upon entry of the facility.

Pool Policies

• All persons must shower before entering the water.
• All persons with shoulder or longer length hair are advised to wear a swim cap.
• All patrons who wish to enter the water must wear proper swim attire, an appropriate swimsuit. This excludes regular athletic shorts, sliders, compression shorts, sports bras, etc.
• The lifeguard reserves the right to decide who shall and shall not be permitted to use the pool. All lifeguards are trained and instructed to abide by all Campus Recreation policies and procedures.
• Persons suspected of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol will be prohibited from entering the water.
• Running, pushing, throwing into the pool, use of profanity, or behavior causing annoyance, danger, or abuse is prohibited, and will result in suspension from using the pool and/or all Campus Recreation Facilities.
• U.S. Coast Guard approved personal flotation devices only. No swimmies or bubbles that are NOT approved by USCG. Ask the lifeguard if you are unsure about any device.
• Lightning is part of a severe weather storm where electrical surges head from the clouds toward the earth or from the ground towards the sky. Lightning is generally thought of as a threat to outdoor facilities, but inside the building there is also a threat of electrocution. If there is an electrical storm outside the Montclair State University Student Recreation Center, lifeguards will evacuate the Student Recreation Center Pool. The pool area will remain closed until 30 minutes after the last evidence of lightning or thunder is present.
• Emergency Pool Procedures:
  • If the lifeguard blows his/her whistle, look for further instruction.
  • In the case of evacuation: please stay with the group and follow the Lifeguards' directions.

Attire Policies

• Athletic wear (shorts, sweatpants, t-shirts, loose fitting clothing) required for entrance into the following activity areas: natatorium, upper/lower fitness, gym, multipurpose rooms, track, racquetball courts.
   *Exceptions: intramural spectators, Special Events
• Jeans, casual slacks, pants or shorts with zippers or belts, boots, open toed shoes, and cleats are not acceptable attire in activity areas, and entry will be denied.
• Absolutely no footwear with wheels will be allowed in any part of the Student Recreation Center.
• Clothing must cover entire torso; i.e. no wearing just sports bras.

Food & Drink Policies

• Patrons may only bring beverages in plastic bottles into the Student Recreation Center.
• No food is allowed in any activity area (natatorium, upper/lower fitness, gym, multipurpose rooms, track, racquetball courts).
• Anyone bringing food into the lounge areas should clean all remaining trash and assist us in keeping the Student Recreation Center clean.
• Absolutely no food or beverages in the main gym.

Towel Policies

• All patrons must carry a towel at all times.
• Towels are available throughout the facility as well as bins to dispose of used towels.
• Bath towels must be checked out with a MSU ID.
• There will be a charge for any bath towel that is not returned.
