If I am a student, how can I find people to talk to so that I can explore careers?

If I am an alum and want to become a mentor, how do I volunteer?

Why should I network or find a mentor?
Good career decisions require information. Career Development's library has hundreds of books that describe occupations, and the Internet is an inexhaustable resource for finding out about careers, but reading is only a place to start. Talking to people in the field to find out more detailed information is invaluable.

We recommend that you first research an occupation in the career library or on the web and then find alums to call. Read our handout listing appropriate questions for an information interview in order to be well prepared. Don't forget to add your own questions.

1. Our E-mail mentoring system

What is the College Central Mentor Network?
The Network is a listing of alums who have volunteered to speak on the phone or via e-mail about their careers with other alums and current students who want to learn about occupations.

To search or join the Network, a password is required.
Students: Call Career Development at 973.655.5194 to get the password and then click here.
Alums: Call the Alumni Association at 973.655.4141 to get the password and then click here to join or search the Mentor Network.
