I want to create an effective resume and improve my interviewing skills...

I. Learn

  • Watch and listen to our on-line presentations on resume writing and interviewing so you can learn the best ways to create this important document and how to communicate to a potential employer that you have the skills s/he needs. Click here. 

  • Read A Guide to Career Planning and Job Hunting, (available in the Center), which explains how to write a resumé and how to interview effectively.

  • Attend instructional seminars.
    • Resumé Writing (taught by employers)
    • Effective Interviewing (taught by employers)
  • Have your resumé critiqued by a counselor in the Center during counseling drop-in hours or bring a typed copy of your resumé to the office and ask that it be critiqued. You may pick it up two days later.
II. Create and Practice
  • Use OptimalResume, a comprehensive, web-based tool, which allows you to create, present and manage up to 5 resumes. OptimalResume will guide you throughout the creation of your resume, offering suggestions on how to phrase your education and employment history.
    • Current students: Use your mail.montclair email address to log into the system.

    • Get started with Optimal Resume by registering here.

  • Print the final copy of your resumé in the Center's Computer Lab.

  • Use Interview Prep, (part of Optimal Resume), our on-line practice interviewing system, which allows you to record, watch and listen to yourself answering questions.

  • Make an appointment with a counselor for an interviewing role-play if you think you need more help.
