Overview

The Doctor of Education Specialization in Philosophy for Children is intended for educators who want to attain the highest degree in education, while retaining a focus on classroom practice. The degree program is characterized by a strong theoretical base and a comprehensive perspective on the nature of schools, education in a democracy, and effective teaching and learning. The program will aim to prepare students from the U.S. and abroad who already have the equivalent of a Masters Degree in philosophy or Philosophy for Children with the necessary courses and research to enable them to assume leadership positions in education in their country. Students working in this specialization will engage in intensive study of the various domains of pedagogy and critical analysis of the theory and practice of Philosophy for Children. Students will also explore related fields such as cognitive science, educational psychology, linguistics, critical sociology, and traditional and international domains of Philosophy as they bear on Philosophy for Children.
