The graduate program in Nutrition and Food Science provides students with in-depth study of nutrition science, nutrition education, food and nutrition issues, food regulations and compliance and nutrition counseling. It prepares professionals for careers in nutrition and wellness, allied health services, education and research, food and nutrition administration, government agencies, hospitals, food industries, food production, food safety and regulations, and food and nutrition management.

III. Electives (3-4 semester hours)
Students should consider their career goals when they select the elective course (s). Students who select NUFD 509, Research Seminar, (3 credits) should take a minimum of 4 credit hours of elective courses. Those who select NUFD 698, Thesis, (4 credits) must take a minimum of 3 credit hours of elective courses. Students who choose emphasis A (Nutrition Education) may take courses under emphasis B (Nutrition and Food Science Management) as electives, and vice versa. Below are some suggested elective courses.

IV. COMPREHENSIVE EXAMINATION OR THESIS DEFENSE
Those who elect to take the research seminar will take both a written and an oral examination, after completing at least 24 s.h. of their program. Those who elect to write a thesis will defend their work before their thesis coordinator and the committee that has assisted in their study.
