HLTH 544: Community Organization and Health Advocacy
This course focuses on community-based health organizations (CBHOs) and their functions. Students examine the political and economic management of these organizations, and their role in and future potential for improving health outcomes. They examine the advocacy model of community health and develop strategies and skills necessary to become an effective health advocate. They explore community organizing techniques for health advocacy, with examples of how these techniques have been successfully applied to achieve gains in health policies and practices. 3 hours lecture.
