Student Advisement

Students who need general advising and academic planning should see their faculty advisors prior to any registration periods. 

During registration periods, students who need authorizations or permits to register for classes should send an email to:

Each member of the Department of Health and Nutrition Sciences advisement team has specific responsibilities. The advisement team consists of:

The Student:

Students are responsible for reviewing their degree audit regularly (the degree audit is available is available in WESS). The degree audit lists the courses required for the completion of a degree. Students should also review the Montclair State University Handbook (available on the University website) to familiarize themselves with the University's academic policies.

The Faculty Advisor:

Each Student in the department is assigned a faculty advisor.  You can determine who your faculty advisor is by reviewing your Student Services account through WESS or by contacting the Department Secretary, Ms. Claudia Guy, at 973-655-4154. Faculty advisors can assist students in choosing courses, reviewing degree progress, and processing credit adjustments. They can also be valuable sources of advice and information about future career directions. Each advisor has posted office hours for drop-in or is available by appointment.

The Department Administrator:

Students should attempt to work with their faculty advisors whenever possible.  The Department Administrator is available to assist the following students:

  1. New students (freshmen or transfer) in their first semester
  2. Students who will be graduating within one year
  3. Students who do not have a full schedule for the coming semester due to closed courses and/or course conflicts

Students who meet the above criteria can sign up for an appointment with the Department Administrator.  Appointment sign-up sheets are posted on the door of her office (UN4154) inside the Health and Nutrition Sciences office suite (UN4162) on the fourth floor of University Hall.  Some walk-in appointments may be available on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10am-12pm.
