NCATE Accreditation

Welcome from the Dean

Montclair State University's teacher education program has a long history of national accreditation. In fact, Montclair was among the first group of institutions accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) in 1954 and has been continuously accredited since then. Sixty years later, NCATE has evolved into a new accrediting agency—Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP)—which is the premier accrediting agency for education professionals, accrediting more than 900 educator preparation providers.

We are proud of our long-standing accreditation and committed to maintaining the high quality of our programs for the preparation of educators. Our response to the evolving standards and guidelines of the profession and of NCATE (now CAEP) has helped us maintain our commitment to excellence.

Through the links on this website, you will find information related to our accreditation and our innovative performance assessment system. We hope you find the material useful.

Feel free to contact our CAEP Coordinator if you have any questions: Acting Associate Dean Suzanne McCotter (mccotters@mail.montclair.edu).
