The purpose of Montclair State University's newly-established Center for Translation and Interpreting is to reinforce and increase advanced study of language by language majors in the focused skills of translation and interpreting, and invigorate the professional career opportunities for language graduates.
Leveraging Montclair State's world language offerings and cutting-edge language learning technology, the Center supports curricular and professional development, coordinates academic and professional opportunities through internships and career-entry possibilities, and establishes visibility in the area of translation and interpreting. Ultimately it will provide needed services in translation and interpreting to the campus and regional community.
The Center collaborates closely with the CHSS Departments of Linguistics, Modern Languages and Literatures, Spanish and Italian, and Classics and General Humanities. Montclair State University currently offers instruction, at varying levels, in the following languages: American Sign Language, Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Greek (ancient), Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Latin, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish.
The Center is located in Schmitt Hall 135-C (inside the Language Testing Center on the first floor), in proximity with the departments of Linguistics, Modern Languages and Literatures, and Spanish and Italian.
