First-Year Writing: What Class Do You Need?
In the First-Year Writing Program, our exciting and rigorous classes introduce students to contemporary social issues through reading and discussion, and support them as they develop their abilities to write academically--that is, to write thoughtful, carefully constructed arguments that are supported by evidence and articulated with care, even grace.
The First-Year Writing program offers two required writing courses for graduation: WRIT 105, "College Writing I," and WRIT 106, "College Writing II." Students entering into WRIT 105 take a three-credit course, and have the option of attending our Workshop that incldues additional instruction and support. Students entering into WRIT 106 are assessed as part of their WRIT 105 course and placed by the program in either a three or four-credit version of WRIT 106.
