MSU Scholarships

Students are welcome and encouraged to apply to multiple scholarship programs!

Conrad Schmitt Scholarship ($5,000)
This scholarship is available to full-time prospective juniors and seniors in the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures or the Department of Spanish and Italian. Preference will be given to a non-native speaker studying the foreign language as their second language. This scholarship is awarded based on academic achievement and financial need. Recipients must have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.
Deadline: March 1.

The scholarship money is designed to defray tution costs and will be transfered by the Montclair State Foundation to the recipient's account on campus.

The Margaret B. Holz Scholarship Program (approximately $500)
For undergraduate language majors studying abroad. Deadline: March 1. See guidelines and application here

Peter Balsamo Scholarship for Language and Heritage Study Abroad ($500-1,000)
Awarded to MSU student with financial need to study language and/or heritage abroad. Deadline: March 1 (for Summer 2016, Fall 2016 or Spring 2017 study abroad). Application available at: Balsamo Scholarship Guidelines.docx

Anita Magistro Udell Scholarship for Language Majors ($1,000)
Awarded annually to a student majoring in a foreign language who is in financial need or identifies as an underrepresented minority. See guidelines and application here.
The scholarship money is designed to defray tution costs and will be transfered by the Montclair State Foundation to the recipient's account on campus. Please note, qualified students who have been accepted into a study abroad program are automatically considered for the Udell scholarship.

Endowed Graduate Scholarship in French
To assist one student currently enrolled in the French graduate program of the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures. The award covers one graduate course (tuition only). Recipients must be in good academic standing with at least 3.0 cumulative GPA at time of application. For more information about this award, please call (973) 655-4283.

This scholarship is available to a graduate student majoring in a program of foreign language study in the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures or the Department of Spanish and Italian (award alternates departments). Preference will be given to a non-native speaker studying a foreign language as her or his second language. This scholarship is awarded based on academic achievement and financial need. Recipients must have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.
