This year's topic focuses on child neglect.  We know that research has shown and victims have confirmed that neglect has severe effects on both the physical and psychological well being of the child.  The goal of this year's conference is to elucidate this impact.

The Educational Neglect of Children: Negating Their Education

Kenneth Schneider, Ph.D.

Rutgers University

Dr. Kenneth Schneider is a Professor Emeritus of Rutgers University, Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology (GSAPP), where he held a faculty position since 1976 and Chair of Department of Applied Psychology. He continues to teach and supervise at GSAPP and serves as Director of Learning Disability/ADHD evaluation program of the Psychology Clinic of GSAPP. Dr. Schneider has been licensed by the New Jersey State Board of Psychological Examiners since 1979 and has been a certified school psychologist since 1967. His current interests include advocacy for developmental disabled individuals and their families. He works extensively with students and is a popular supervisor in the areas of both clinical work and dissertation research. He has consulted to numerous school districts, the NJ State Department of Education, and other agencies.

Dr. Christine Baker is the Family Life Education Center (FLEC) Director, and Supervising Psychologist of the Metropolitan Regional Diagnostic and Treatment Center (RDTC) at Newark Beth IsraelMedical Center. She also serves as Clinical Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at UMDNJ, NJ Medical School. Dr. Baker has served as Visiting Specialist at Montclair State University’s Center for Child Advocacy, and has been qualified as an expert witness for civil and criminal cases in several NJ counties. She frequently presents at local and national conferences; most recently at the 18th Annual Conference on Child Abuse and Neglect in Washington, DC. Dr. Baker currently serves on the Prevention Sub-Committee of the NJ Task Force on Child Abuse and Neglect, on the Board of Trustees of Integrity House, Inc., and on the Essex County Domestic Violence Teen Interpersonal Violence Work Group.
