Orange University-Assisted Community School Initiative

In 2012 the SLCE received a planning grant from JP Morgan Chase Foundation to lay the foundation for a University-Assisted Community School at Oakwood Avenue School in Orange and to help educate, engage, empower, and serve all members of the community.

Between October-July the SLCE program has been working to align university expertise and resources in a community engagement strategy to address pressing educational, social, and economic needs of the community. The goal of the planning grant is to develop a multi-year strategic plan by summer 2013, and a multi-year partnership among MSU, OPS, and JPMC. In addition, funds are supporting the implementation of on-going engagement projects in Rosa Park Central Community School and other schools in Orange.
