Innovative, entertaining and illuminating work, family
fare, classical and contemporary music, visual art, dance
and much more are presented every year at Montclair State
University. With the opening of the state-of-the-art 500-seat
Alexander Kasser Theater, the University presents theatrical
fare that pushes the boundaries of contemporary entertainment.
Our Music Department presents over 100 concerts each year
from performances by internationally-known guest artists
and recitals by our faculty to concerts by our student
ensembles; University Art Galleries offers national and
international shows as well as student exhibitions and
the productions by our Theater and Dance Departments can't
be beat.

The Child Care Center is an exciting, inviting place where
children can explore a wide variety of materials and activities.
The Center houses four classrooms in which developmentally
appropriate programs are provided for children age 3 months
through 6 years.

Cooperative Education combines academic study with supervised
work experience through internships. The University's
Cooperative Education program has become a national leader
that has served more than 11,000 students and 620 employers.
Students are available for work based on academic semesters
that begins in September, January and May. Co-op staff
can help you develop a time-line so that pre-screening,
interviews, selection and preparation can be successfully
completed by the target date.

Gifted and Talented Young Student

During the past 20 years Montclair State University has
conducted sessions of the Academic Foundations Program
(AFP) and Academically Gifted & Talented Young Student
Program (AGP), a supplementary academic program for high
aptitude and high achieving 4th- through 11th- grade students.
The primary goal of the program is to provide balanced
enrichment by strengthening both the verbal and the quantitative
or science areas. All courses in the programs are non-credit
and are taught by professors who have experience and expertise
in the area of gifted education.

The Preparatory Center for the Arts of Montclair State
University was established in 1976 to provide musical
education and training for all age groups. Since that
time the school has attracted outstanding faculty members
from all the major performing ensembles in the New York
Metropolitan area, including the New York Philharmonic,
the Metropolitan and New York City Opera companies, and
the New Jersey symphony. Currently, the Preparatory Center
for the Arts serves approximately three hundred students
offering a comprehensive curriculum designed the stimulate
musical understanding, artistic performance and expression
in a highly individualized setting. The Preparatory Center
for the Arts is a community of talented and dedicated
students, parents, faculty and staff working together
to create a dynamic learning environment for musical experiences.

the constellations, the moon, planets, double stars and
nebulae every clear Thursday evening from 8-9 p.m. in
front of Richardson Hall or on the roof of Science Hall.
Public Telescope Night will be canceled if the weather

The Montclair State Athletic Department offers 24 sports
for men and women, and most complete in the highly regarded
New Jersey Athletic Conference, MSU is a member of the
largest athletic conference in the country-the Eastern
College Athletic Conference, and all sports are designated
in the NCAA as Division III. We proudly boast five national
championships and over 220 All-Americans.

If you are a resident of Montclair, Clifton or Little
Falls and have a library card from that town, you have
borrowing privileges at the Montclair State University
library (please note we don't provide borrowing privileges
to persons under 18). The Reference Desk will answer questions
from anyone-not just our faculty and students and you
can view videos in the library (sorry, videos cannot be
checked out). The University library is government depository
library and we have a large collection of federal and
state government documents. In the spring, the Library
sponsors an International Film Festival-free! Connect
to the library's home page from your computer to view
what books, periodicals and media we have in our collections
and what books have been recently added to the collection
as well as consult some of the electronic journals (some
are restricted to MSU faculty and students).
