Getting started

  • Want a great resume?
    • Attend an in-person workshop to learn how to write an effective resume or
    • Listen to an on-line workshop or
    • Read A Guide to Career Planning and Job Hunting, (available in the Center) or
    • Format your resume using OptimalResume, a comprehensive, web-based tool, which allows you to create, present and manage mutiple resumes.
      • Current students: Use your mail.montclair email address to log into the system.
      • Alumni: To avoid paying a $29 fee for this service, call the Alumni Association at 973.655.4141 to receive the promotional code for FREE access to the program. DO NOT SELECT "CLICK TO PURCHASE."

  • Want a great cover letter?
  • Want a critique of your resumé or cover letter?
    • Bring your resume to the Center during counseling drop-in hours or
    • Drop off a copy of your resumé any time and ask that it be critiqued. You may pick it up two days later.


  • Want to learn about interviewing?
    • Come to an in-person workshop to learn about the traditional and behavioral interview.
    • Listen to an on-line workshop here.
    • Click here for typical interview questions.
    • Use Interview Prep, (part of Optimal Resume), our on-line practice interviewing system, which allows you to record, watch and listen to yourself answering questions.
    • Make an appointment with a counselor for an interviewing role-play if you think you need more help.
