Ecology & Evolution Summer Institute

Where the Next Generation Science Standards Come Down to Earth

Who:     Science Teachers Grades 5-8

Where:  PRISM Center, Blanton Hall

When:   July 16-18 and July 23-25 (Tuesday – Thursday, 6 days total)

Time:     8:30am – 2:30pm

On April 9, 2013, the Next Generation Science Standards were released and New Jersey, through its Department of Education, will be one of the lead states striving to put them into practice.  Also, in September 2013 a new teacher evaluation system, AchieveNJ, will be launched in every district throughout New Jersey.  Based on New Jersey Department of Education regulations 85% of all middle grades science teachers evaluations will be based on their teaching practices, as evidenced through classroom observations.

This summer institute will:

  1. Delve into earth and life science content, particularly as they intersect with ecology and evolution;
  2. Investigate how to align curriculum to the Next Generation Science Standards;
  3. Examine how to receive a highly effective rating for teaching practices, using The Danielson Framework for Teaching.

There is no cost for participation and all prior CUSP teachers are invited to attend.  Each participating teacher will receive valuable resources to use in your classroom, as well as 30PD hours and free parking.
