Biology Majors

Tasnia Aftab

Tasnia Aftab is an undergraduate senior at Montclair State University pursuing a B.S. in Biology. In additional to clinical training, she is analyzing overfeeding data collected in confined subjects to compare to predicted results from matheamtical models. She recently presented her peer reviewed poster at Experimental Biology. Tasnia is also in the Educational Opportunity Fund Program at Montclair State. Tasnia’s career goal is to one day become a physician that implements medical research advances into clinical practice.

Syeda Islam Alumnus

Syeda Islam is an undergraduate junior at Montclair State University pursuing a B.S in Biology. Syeda is the current director for the Center’s clinical program where she manages student training and patient scheduling. Syeda is a Certified Nurses Assistant and a licensed EMT. She plans to advance her clinical experience to become a Physician Assistant. As part of the Center of Quantitative Obesity Research she collects clinical measurements related to body weight regulation such as waist circumference, body fat assessments, glucose levels, and blood pressure. She will be presenting her research on body shape and exercise at Experimental Biology 2013.

Jenie Kunnipparampil

Jenie Kunnipparampil is an undergraduate junior majoring in biology at Montclair State University. She is interested in a career in dentistry. She has volunteered and shadowed under emergency and dental residents at The University Hospital (UMDNJ). She will soon start her project with Dr. Richard Miller (OB/GYN) at St. Barnabas Medical Health Center.

Katertna Mykhatlova

Kateryna Mykhaylova is a senior student whom is majoring in Biology. Once she graduates she aspires to go into medical school to become a doctor specializing in reproductive medicine. Kateryna uses her background, in biology, to apply the latest theories in weight-loss for the clinic in CQOR. Along with clinical practice, she was one of the authors for a research paper titled, “Geometrical representation of the human body provides new insights into body fat distribution.” She has gone to ObesityWeek 2015 in LA and LSAMP conference in Rutgers to present her findings.

Sharmin Uddin

Sharmin Uddin is currently a senior in the undergraduate Biology program. Sharmin is gaining clinical experience by collecting body weight regulation related measurements for the Center for Quantitative Obesity Research. She has recently attended Experimental Biology 2013, where she presented her analysis on overfeeding data collected in confined individuals to compare with predicted results from mathematical models. In the future, Sharmin plans on becoming a nurse and continue her work with the Center clinic.

Mathematics Majors

Maria Castro

Maria Castro is an undergraduate student at Montclair State University. She is currently majoring in Mathematics with a Concentration in Statistic, and Minoring in chemistry. Maria has recently transferred to MSU after graduating From Union County College with an associate’s degree Chemistry. She is a Recipient of the Alliance/Merck Ciencia (Science) Hispanic Scholars Program. Her interests include Mathematics, Biochemistry, Nutrition, Statistics and Business.

Nutrition Majors

Dylan Bailey

Dylan Bailey is currently a senior Nutrition and Food Science major with a concentration in Dietetics, who also holds a minor in Psychology. Dylan seeks to utilize his strong background of nutritionally related knowledge in a translational and clinically relevant research manner. He aspires to gain his Ph.D. in nutrition, while also becoming a registered dietitian. He is broadly interested in obesity, yet research areas he would like pursue include the cognitive, homeostatic, and genetic factors underlying this metabolic issue. Dylan is thrilled to be a member of the Center for Quantitative Obesity Research and hopes to make beneficial contributions to the scientific community as a constituent of this center.

Victoria Bodrato

Victoria Bodrato is a first year graduate student in the Nutrition and Food Science M.S. program at Montclair State University. She received her B.S. degree in Nutritional Science at the University of Connecticut, where she also became certified as a Professional Food Manager. In the past Victoria has volunteered with Connecticut’s FoodShare food assistance program and has worked under the dietitians at the Paramus Veterans Memorial Home. She plans to pursue a dietetic internship in the hopes of becoming a Registered Dietitian.

Kaitlyn Marshall

Kaitlyn Marshall is an undergraduate at Montclair State University. She holds a B.A. in Psychology from University of Delaware and is currently pursuing a B.S. in Nutrition and Food Sciences. She was a lab assistant at the University of Delaware Human Emotions Lab and is excited to be a part of the Center for Quantitative Obesity Research team where she can merge her background in psychology with nutrition sciences. She plans on applying to internships next year to support her career goal as a Registered Dietitian.
