International Student Admission Requirement

ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENT
International students who earned undergraduate (or graduate) degrees in a country where English is not the official language are required to take the MSU ESL placement test and score at a level of IV or higher. Students who do not place at this level will be required to take ESL courses. Students will be issued an ESL checklist that specifies courses to be followed; GPC will include this information in the student's program of study. All ESL courses should be completed as quickly as possible, and no later than the beginning of the third semester of graduate study.

TOEFL AND Test OF English AT MSU
The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is required of all students whose native language is not English and whose degree was obtained in a country where English is not the official language (regardless of how long student has been in U.S.). In addition, there is an English language proficiency test, administered at Montclair State University, required once the student arrives in the United States. Upon review of the English language proficiency test score, students may be required to enroll in English as a Second Language (ESL) courses at Montclair State University.

WES (WORLD EDUCATION SERVICES)
Applicants with non-U.S. degrees do not submit official undergraduate transcripts but need to submit a course-by-course evaluation of their foreign coursework from World Education Services (WES). www.wes.org.
