Ten science teachers and fifty - two of their students, from six high schools, participated in the Epidemiology Education Partnership (EEP) by taking our Montclair State University undergraduate course entitled, The Science of Public Health - Epidemiology.
The students received 3 college credits for completing the course and the teachers audited the course and served as mentors for their students.
At the end of the course, students cross-age taught epidemiology lessons from the Detectives in the Classroom curriculum to middle school students from their school districts. The EEP teachers supervised their students' cross-age teaching and have agreed to teach 5-10 epidemiological lessons in their regular high school classes during the 2005-2006 academic year.
