HUMAN RELATIONS AND LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT INTSTITUTE/ASSOCIATION
(H.R.L.D./A)

This special program sponsored by Educational Opportunity Programs is available to students who have developed a record of service activities through their participation in high school, church, community or employment related activities or organizations. The program seeks to enroll students who have demonstrated leadership potential by exercising social and civic responsibility through public service and now have the desire to strengthen their leadership skills in the areas of personal management and organizational effectiveness. If you are a student who wishes to learn how you can "lead" effectively and make a valuable difference in the lives of others, then you are a candidate for this program.

Enrollment in this leadership development program is limited and competitive. It affords students the opportunity to learn how to be better leaders, resolve conflicts, build/sustain relationships within a team setting, delegate assignments, make presentations, mentor and coach others, set action plans and objectives, and most importantly, exercise these skills by becoming a member of HRLDA/The Student Leadership Corps - a highly visible and active student organization committed to service and community development. Each year this team carries out 40 projects and over 2,000 hours of service are provided to public and private human service organizations.

Members, during the academic year earn up to $1,200 for their community service work, and are eligible to work as a Peer Leader during the E.O.F. Summer Program. Approximately $3000 of compensation in the form of salary, tuition/fees, room board, and meals is given to students hired as Peer Leaders. Students wishing to learn more about the program may complete the H.R.L.D.I.A. Summer Orientation Stage Application. Students accepted for this stage will be introduced to the program, members of the HRLDA Student Leadership Corps, and on a limited basis work along side these members this summer. Students enrolled in the Orientation Stage have priority in being selected for the academic year program. If you want to be a step ahead of other applicants applying for the academic year program, fill out the application. Only students who select to participate in H.R.L.D.I/A will be eligible for the Emerging Leaders Program and considered for the 3-credit course Introduction to Leadership Development.

Interested students that wish to submit an application to the H.R.L.D. coordinator (Ms. Bertha Diggs) should Click Here in order to download the application in pdf format or doc format. The application should be forwarded to:diggsb@mail.montclair.edu
