Facilities Management Information Systems (FMIS)

The Facilities Management Information Systems Group (FMIS) was launched in Fall 2005 to handle special projects and bridge the gap between the facilities groups and growing technology components, which are a part of many campus control systems.

The core responsibility of the FMIS group is the work order process, which is currently handled by the TMA work order system. The Facilities Service Desk (FSD) operates as the MSU facilities call center, and is the resident TMA power-user. The FSD is responsible for the intake, logging, routing and dispatch of all facilities trouble calls. All work order information is stored in TMA, whether entered directly into the system by the FSD, or through the TMA iServiceDesk web client, which is available online to the MSU user community at http://maintenancesrv.montclair.edu/home.html

Campus Access Control Systems (ACS) were added to the FMIS group's responsibilities in 2006, with their first major project being the assumption of the newly installed University Hall ACS. The unit's ACS duties were later increased to include control of the MSU Locksmith Shop. At the beginning of the fall 2006 semester, the University's 300-plus magnetic swipe locks were moved under the FMIS umbrella. These strategic moves save money for the University, and allows a central point of contact for all campus electronic and mechanical security needs.
