Recycling Overview

Montclair State University is committed to the State of New Jersey's “Sustainability Greenhouse Gas Action Plan,” in which we reduce New Jersey’s greenhouse gas emissions through the reduction of solid waste going from campus into landfills. The program is made up of four components:

Source Reduction

  • encourage printing reports and documents on both sides of a sheet of paper
  • using e-mails, rather than printed correspondence whenever possible
  • printing the appropriate numbers of documents for meetings, etc. so as to eliminate waste

Reuse of Materials

  • reuse discarded furniture that is in good shape
  • use glassware, dishware, and flatware rather than disposable paper cups, or plates and plastic ware
  • use products that are reusable, refillable, repairable, non-toxic and recyclable
  • the Housekeeping Department uses “green seal” cleaning chemicals, which are environment friendly

Recycling

  • Academic Buildings - cans & bottles, mixed paper, and refuse
  • Administration Buildings - cans & bottles, mixed paper, refuse, and copier ink toner
  • Residence Life Buildings - cans & bottles, mixed paper, and refuse
  • Athletic Facilities - cans & bottles, mixed paper and refuse
  • Performing Arts Facilities - cans & bottles, mixed paper, and refuse
  • Student Center - cans & bottles, mixed paper, and refuse

Purchasing of Recycled Content Materials
