Information for New Employees

Your First Day

Your manager or supervisor will contact you the day before your first day to let you know where and when you should report to work.

On your first day you will also attend the Human Resources Orientation which is from 10am to 12pm.  Human Resources will notify you of the location.  Upon returning from that Orientation, your supervisor will take you to get your MSU Staff ID.

Before attending FM&EM's New Employee Orientation, please keep the following items in mind.

Employee Benefits and Payroll Forms

If you wish to turn in Employee Benefits and/or Payroll forms (healthcare, accident or voluntary insurance, etc.) during Orientation, you will need to bring your Social Security Numbers, birth dates, and addresses for all dependents and beneficiaries.

If you have not yet applied for a parking permit or not yet completed the I-9 process, you may finalize them during Orientation.

I-9 Form

The I-9 is a federal form establishing eligibility for employment.  It establishes your start date and establishes entry into the payroll system.  In order to complete the I-9 form, you must have an original, non-laminated Social Security Card or passport and one other form of picture identification such as a driver's license, military ID card, etc.  If you do not have these documents, please check the list of other acceptable documents that can be used. This form must be completed in the Human Resources office.

Parking on Campus

Parking Permits are required to park on campus. You may apply for a parking permit before or during orientation. To complete the application you need to know your vehicle's make, model, and license plate number.

Employees who have their NetID before Orientation are able to obtain a parking permit through the online system before orientation. Full-time employees can park in any of the orange or yellow lots on the Parking Map. Part-time employees are able to park in the yellow lots. Be sure to read the Parking Regulations before parking on campus.

Employees who do not get their parking permit before Orientation should park in the Red Hawk Parking Deck. They will receive a green validated parking ticket during Orientation which allows them to exit the Red Hawk Parking Deck for free. At the end of Orientation, employees will have the parking permit application completed and on the following day can park in Faculty/Staff parking lots.

Employees who already have a parking permit should continue to park in the designated parking lots while attending Orientation.

To locate the Red Hawk Parking Deck, or any other building on campus, please view the campus map.

Dress Code

The dress code for Orientation is business casual. However, an exception will be made for those employees required to wear a work uniform. Feel free to bring a jacket or sweater as the temperature setting is not always pleasing to everyone who attends.

Uniforms

Uniforms (if applicable) will be provided to employees at the end day of the Facilities Orientation.
