Amy Clarkson

Biography

Amy L. Clarkson, MMT, LCAT, MT-BC, TEP (she/her) is a board-certified music therapist and certified trainer, educator and practitioner of psychodrama, sociometry and group psychotherapy. Amy serves as the Clinical Training Associate for the Music Therapy Department, coordinating the practicum training placements for music therapy students. She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in the music therapy department. In addition, Amy provides music therapy services at Montclair State University’s Ben Samuels Children’s Center. There she supports child development and social-emotional well-being through musical engagement. At the Children's Center, Amy provides supervision and training for music therapy students who complete practicum hours in that setting. She has presented at local, regional and national conferences. Specializations include the integration of music therapy and psychodrama in helping children and adults heal from trauma, and supporting development and creative expression with children and adults who are neurodiverse. Amy has published on the topics of songwriting and identity, music therapy for children with autism, the integration of the creative arts therapies in helping children heal from trauma, and the music therapy treatment process.
