Biography
Frankie Caputo studied at the School of Audio Engineering in Amsterdam, earning a degree in recording arts from its partner institution Middlesex University, London.
His thesis explored interactive audio/visual systems, originally designed for the live environment, using the crowd as a modulating sources in musical performances. Due to technological limitations at the time, his focus shifted to an unorthodox use of a Microsoft Kinect camera. Originally designed for video games to be played without a controller, he used the hardware/software to create a system where one could control sound intuitively using only one's own body.
While in Amsterdam, Frankie worked at STEIM (Studio for Electro-Instrumental Music).
Since returning to New York in 2012, he has worked in live sound as an audio engineer, composed music and recorded for commercial purposes, and enjoys working with students at Montclair since 2014.
Research
Frankie Caputo teaches hands-on classes focused on MIDI-based music production, and audio engineering. He specializes in Ableton Live, sound design/synthesis, and recording.
