Joshua Litle

Biography

Joshua Atesh Litle is a Turkish-American filmmaker, screenwriter and cinematographer teaching in The School of Media and Communications. Over the last 20+ years he has been around the world shooting and directing a wide range of narrative films, commercials, docs, broadcast TV and music videos.

His major work includes the feature documentary The Furious Force of Rhymes in partnership with ARTE (France/Germany) and The Smithsonian Channel. The film premiered at Locarno winning a Special Jury Prize and won several other prizes playing more than 30 international film festivals and broadcast around the world.

Prior to that he made the narrative feature film Ever Since the World Ended. The improvised film was awarded Best Feature Narrative at both the San Francisco Indiefest (SFIndiefest) and Sci-Fi London film festivals and was selected as a New York Times Critics' Pick.

Other notable works include The Price of Silence for Amnesty International. Set in the United Nations General Assembly the project featured musicians from 16 different countries and a poem read by actor Laurence Fishburne. He produced the documentary "Mayor Mohamed" about the Muslim-American mayor of Prospect Park, NJ.

He has taught at NYU and been a guest speaker at Hunter College, Sarah Lawrence and the Aspen Ideas Festival.
