Biography

Maria Maciak teaches Decolonizing Cinema and Documentary Filmmaking at MSU, and 50 Days of Making at NYU’s Interactive Media Arts graduate program. She is a filmmaker and intermedia artist working in hybrid documentary, installation, and AI-driven experimentation. She co-founded Research Mattress, a collective for ecological inquiry and radical perceptual practice. Her practice has been supported by Catwalk Art Residency, NOMASTMETAFORAS, Tisch Creative Research Grant, and Newlab. As Director of Media at the Ross Institute, she founded the first K–12 Media Studies program and led Smithsonian-supported audiovisual fieldwork in Mo’orea and the Solomon Islands. https://www.mariamaciak.com/
