Biography

Olena Nesteruk holds a Ph.D. in Human Ecology from Louisiana State University. Her main research focus is on the experiences of immigrant families over the life course and across generations in the United States. Specifically, she studies acculturation, changes in parenting practices and intergenerational relationships; second generation youth’s ethnic identity development, mate selection, and heritage language maintenance and loss; Eastern European immigrants. Most recently, she has been researching transnational bereavement, and immigrants in middle and later life. Dr. Nesteruk teaches courses on family life, family theories, internship, and immigrant families. She is a member of the National Council on Family Relations and Family Science Association.
