The Gifted Youth Program recognizes that academically gifted young people, have many special needs, ranging from challenging academic work to a distinct emotional support system, which underscores that being bright is a positive attribute. POGO (Parents of Gifted Offspring) was established more than a decade ago by a group of concerned parents to provide opportunities to meet and discuss these and related issues. Led by experts in the field of gifted education and child and adolescent psychology, POGO seminars take place while students are in classes on the Montclair State University campus and generally last an hour. All parents of gifted students – not just those whose children are enrolled in the program – are invited to participate. The Fall 2008 schedule will include such topics as: Social & Emotional Needs of the Gifted, Challenging the Gifted Student, Advocating for Gifted Children and many more equally interesting subjects. Admission to all POGO seminars is free and open to the public.
High-achieving high school juniors and seniors who wish to enrich their education by enrolling in University courses are invited to apply by submitting a copy of their high school transcript and a letter of recommendation form their guidance counselor.
