Making a Gift
Alumni and friends
support Montclair State University through contributions to the MSU
Foundation made in various ways. Gifts can be given outright,
through a bequest or planned in a manner which will benefit both the
donor and the University. Tax advantages of giving vary with
individual circumstances and the type of gift a donor chooses to give.
The Development staff of the University will be pleased to discuss gifts
that can benefit Montclair State University, however, the Foundation
urges donors to consult their personal tax and legal advisors in regard
to all charitable gifts. GIFTS Planned gifts, also called deferred
gifts, are arranged with the Foundation during a donor's lifetime, but
the benefits to Montclair State University do not accrue until a later
time, usually after the donor or the donor's beneficiaries are deceased.
Bequests are the most common planned gifts; others include trusts, life
income plans and gifts of life insurance. MEMORIAL
AND HONORARY GIFTS Families often request that memorial
donations be sent to the MSU Foundation. Such a tribute is
appropriate even in the absence of a public request. Unlike other
gestures of sympathy, a memorial contribution lives on in service to
other people. All memorial gifts are promptly acknowledged to the donors
and the families are advised of each donor's name and address. The
amount of the gift is not reported to the next of kin. MATCHING
