Program Extension
Your I-20 is only valid until you either:
- Complete your program of studies or
- Your I-20 expires
If you complete your program of studies, then follow the steps outlined in Completion of Studies
If you need more time to complete your program of studies, but your I-20 is nearing the expiration date, then you must request a program extension at least 90 days before the I-20 expires by following these steps:
- Download the Program Extension Request
Part A: To be completed by student
Part B: To be completed by the student’s Academic Advisor
Part C: To be completed by student’s sponsor (if applicable)
Once the Program Extension Request Form is completed by you, your sponsor (if applicable) and your academic advisor, submit it to International Services with the following financial documents showing funding for the duration of your extension:
- Current bank statement, showing enough funds to support your expenses (and that of your dependents, if any) for the duration of your extension. Expenses include tuition and fees, living expenses, and miscellaneous expenses.
- An updated graduate assistantship letter, if applicable.
