Revisiting Russia:
A Discussion with Director Slava Tsukerman about Perestroika

Monday, April 27th 8:00 pm, Brantl Auditorium, Dickson Hall

Slava Tsukerman, award-winning director of the cult classic Liquid Sky, the documentary Stalin’s Wife, and 43 other films, will show and discuss excerpts from his new film, Perestroika, which premiered last month in New York City. Based in part on his own experiences of emigration and return, the film tells the story of scientist who goes back to Russia in 1992 andcomes to grips with the vast changes that have taken place in his country since he left in 1975.  Academy Award WinnerF. Murray Abraham stars in the film along with Sam Robards, Oksana Stashenko, Jicky Shnee and Ally Sheedy.

 

The program will feature commentary by Alexander Smukler, a leading activist on Jewish affairs in the Soviet Union, who was refused the right to emigrate until 1991. Mr. Smukler is the President of the National Council for Soviet Jewry and the Board Chair of Century 21: Russia, Kazakhstan & Ukraine.
