International Business and American Studies: A Summer Intensive Program
July 15 – August 8, 2013
Program Overview
This customized program for undergraduate and graduate students from partner universities includes an international business course plus corporate site visits, guest lectures and guided field trips to New York City and Philadelphia.
Academic Program
Participants take one undergraduate or graduate course, together with Montclair State University students, and must have completed any prerequisite courses prior to arrival in Montclair for the program. In some cases, the first and last weeks of coursework and exams are completed online.
Participants matriculate at Montclair State University as Visiting Students and receive and official transcript for 3 undergraduate or graduate credits plus a Global Education Center certificate upon successful completion of the program.

Corporate and Governmental Site Visits
The program includes 1-2 corporate or governmental site visits per week, with accompanying Montclair State University faculty providing background information and acting as facilitators. Site visits vary each year but have included:

American Studies Guest Lectures
The program includes a guest lectures series on Contemporary American Culture, with 1-2 weekly guest lectures and related field trips. This series focuses social, economic and political environment trends and their impact on business. Guest lectures vary each year but have included:
- The Business of Broadway
- Emerging Trends in American Media and Society
- The U.S. Political System
- Business Ethics: Profitvs. Social Responsibility
- The Media Business
- Rundt’s World Business Intelligence
- FDA Food Regulations and Its Impact on the Food Industry
Accommodations and Meals
Housing is provided in an apartment-style dormitory on the campus of Montclair State University with four students per apartment, mostly in single bedrooms. Each apartment has a living room, kitchen and two bathrooms. One set of bed linens, towels and pillows are provided. Kitchens are equipped with a set of basic cleaning, dishes and cooking equipment. Housing is included from Saturday July 13 to Friday August 9.
A meal plan is provided that covers four cafeteria lunches per week. Students may purchase groceries to cook in their apartments, or purchase other meals in the cafeterias, as they wish.

Undergraduate students: $3,700 Graduate students: $4,500
The program cost includes:
Tuition for 3 undergraduate or graduate credits
Apartment-style dorm room for four weeks

The program cost does not include:
- Airfare
- Visa fees
- Airport transfers
- Other meals
Mandatory short-term U.S. health insurance (estimated cost: $50)
Public transportation to/from New York City for personal trips
Expenses of a personal nature Personal theater or sporting event tickets
Admission to the Program
Participants must be nominated by their home institution. Preference is given to students at partner universities.
Timeline and Terms of Payment
April 1: Applications should be received from the home institution
May 1: Payment in a lump sum from the partner university for all nominated and approved students.
